State’s first new ferry in nearly 20 years arrives in Rockland
My Uncle Peter has a sweet stache. Can’t wait to check out this spiffy new Ferry!
Rockport, Maine - January 15, 2012 by Peter Ralston
It was cold yesterday morning - I hear about minus four - so I took a little walk down to the harbor for a gander. Lots of sea smoke with a light but cutting northerly wind. I love this harbor of ours this time of year. Yesterday it was just me and a few sorry-looking gulls. The few boats still in appear resigned to their winter on the water. The island and the lighthouse look very, very far away right now.

Wow. Almost looks too good to be true, but this is for real. Interesting concept!

From photographer Navid Baraty:
Recently I had the opportunity to photograph Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs’ home aboard the historic 1907 Yankee Ferry, afloat in the New York City Harbor. They’ve not only restored the Yankee and kept it afloat for posterity, but they also use the ship as a beautiful studio and show space for their work as decorative artists.
