My mom and I decided to make the trek from Maine to Miami to experience first hand the excitement we’d been following vicariously online since the Volvo Ocean Race started in October. We came not only welcome the teams as they arrived in America, but to show our support for an event that we’ve both enjoyed over the years.

More on our kinda awesome, “You get what you pay for” hotel and the interesting folks we’ve met along the way later. Maybe.

One of the guys in the Puma Quad said, “Make sure to share that…on Tumblr or something.” And I replied with a laugh, “I can do that.”

On a side note - I was excited to discover that Shannon Falcone is maintaining a tremendous online presence. Sailors aren’t known for having much celebrity status in the States, but with the America’s Cup right around the corner, Falcone might just have the touch to take the US of A by storm.

Totally digging on this interactive Q&A series the Camper with Emirates Team New Zealand team has been hosting over the past week via Facebook and Soundcloud while they make their way to Brazil. Here, navigator Will Oxley answers a number of questions, including one I had about how he’d describe his sextant skillz these days.

My response to an email my mother just sent about getting an ulcer watching the gains Telefonica has been making on “our boys” on Mar Mostro.  (via vorvor)
