I typically avoid the Lobster Festival, but if they bring a big ol’ trap like this back on the scene, I might consider making an appearance. Why avoid it? Well, David Foster Wallace hits the nail on the head - but thankfully, I always have other (better) plans.

It’s all hands on Lance-on-deck. Fun fact: Joel White is the son of the E.B. White.

One evening during the ERR, I took Alexander, Iselin and Mason for a cruise in The Black Boat. About midway through the sail I handed the tiller over to Alexander, who, when the sail was over, landed us next to Sincerity perfectly. Photos from Alison.

Weekend on Wings on Vimeo (via Vimeo) Heya, here are some clips from the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta when I went a yachting in August.

Coming off of CIFF and PopTech, I’ve been thinking a lot about how sometimes I feel like a transient in my own town. Hanging out with filmmakers one weekend, innovators and musicians or yachties the next. This is a good thing, I think.

In August, I spent the weekend with the crew of White Wings at the invitation of Donald, the owner. Even though I’ve known Donald and the W’s for 10+ years, this was my first time meeting this particular crew. For the weekend I entered onto their home, and into their world. And even though I was in Maine and I attend the ERR every year, entering into an established group’s rhythm changes everything.

The crew by the way was super and the video isn’t lying, I had a fantastic weekend full of lots of laughs, drinks and of course sailing. I know the music is pretty epic in the video… but sailing on a wooden boat in Maine among nearly a hundred other wooden boats is pretty freaking epic.

Or maybe I’m just feeling sentimental. Either or, “Yachting is the winner, and so is the Wings.”
