“I can make my own judgments about what I find on the internet,”  Virginia told me last night in regard to this blog. I’ve come to the point that I agree. I’ve gotten swooped up in the Tumblr rage and have enjoyed it. But I’m finding that the dashboard feature makes me so much more conscious of my audience and self conscious of myself. The reblogging vs. I’m...

Amplified Oboe
I recently took on a new project…. booking bands for my favorite bar in Camden. Yeah for Gilbert’s! Since the turnover I’ve been inundated with booking requests. Some of them are… well… I mean… see for yourself:  We are a Portland-based rock band with rock, blues, grunge, punk, jazz, folk and classical influences, featuring an amplified oboe.

More on fruit
It seems like a no-brainer to me that whole, unprocessed fruit is the best for you, that pomegranate juice obviously can’t prevent cancer, and that eating pre-packaged slices of apples with caramel dipping sauce from Starbucks is not a healthy snack choice.  — anjalouise Yes. The general population’s perception of health and nutrition is tweaked. I recently saw a commercial for a...

Apparently the New York Times considers, “Giants Defeat the Packers to Advance to the Super Bowl,” the kind of breaking news important enough to deliver into my mailbox. Huh.

May this serve as a reminder to embelish upon the mortification of the evening that culimnated in some annoying boy saying, “You’re not that hot.”

Unanswered email
Hi D.- J. gave me your card and said that you were considering a move back to Maine and that perhaps I could offer insight to living in the Midcoast. I have to preface my expertise on the area with the fact that I live at home with my parents because I haven’t figured out to make a living here (though people do, obviously) and I’m addicted to the in house laundry service. That said, I...

TheBoaters.tv →
Media coverage (especially video) of sailing and boating in general has a long way to go. TheBoaters.tv reminds me of Rocketboom with a side of infomercial, about boats. The host and her charm bracelet don’t try to be funny which makes the show almost watchable, but not quite.

“When your views on the world and your intellect are being challenged and you begin to feel uncomfortable because of a contradiction you’ve detected that is threatening your current model of the world or some aspect of it, pay attention. You are about to learn something. This discomfort and intellectual conflict is when learning is taking place.” -William H. Drury College of...

A year and a half ago I got my first Mac. My level of expectations in regard to user experience has increased. Now, when I try to do anything on my family’s home computers it’s an infuriating experience. My stepfather, a retired software engineer for Programart and Compuware, is stuck in the fucking dark ages. As the computer “expert” he makes my mother deal with the pain...

I was trying to find a website to a fantastic vegetarian restaurant up the road in Belfast called Chase’s Daily. I don’t think they have one, (sigh) but I did find this eat local challenge site. One of the writers is from the Belfast area and did a little write-up about Chase’s.

The Wall Effect
PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS: A SELF-HELP SERIES BY SCOTTY CROWE (VOL. 2) “Problem: First time fliers (inexperience is the only excuse I’m accepting) can’t fight the temptation of standing shoulder-to-shoulder, knee-against-luggage-carousel at baggage claim. This of course causes “The Wall Effect”, blocking luggage available for pickup from the sight of the more seasoned...
